Still Friends With Your Ex? This Study Says You’re Probably A Psychopath

By on April 22, 2020 0

Psychological researches are fun, except when they are not.

I mean, what if a research says that you’re going to kill someone at the age of 40 if you stay awake all night and sleep all day in your twenties? Or you are a narcissist or a psychopath if you want to stay friends with your ex. The latter assumption is true. We don’t know about the former yet.

Two psychologists from Oakland University, Mr. Justin Mogilski, and Ms. Lisa Welling did a research on people who had a break-up with their partners. They questioned 860 people regarding their pre-relationship, relationship, and post-relationship relations and deduced something from their answers, which is pretty interesting and scary.

The research says that people who stay friends with their ex-girlfriends or ex-boyfriends always score high for dark personality characteristics such as narcissism, duplicity, or even psychopathy!

And this is not singular research. They have done the same research second time and have found the results the same.

The subjects of the research were asked the question of why are they staying friends with their exes? They were given a number of choices. The subjects were given the choice of choosing multiple options according to importance.

The answers that got the highest ratings were- because their exes were ‘reliable, trustworthy, and of sentimental value.’

But, those subjects who were inclined to have a dark personality (who had personality traits like narcissism, duplicity, psychopathy, etc.) said that their reasons for remaining friends with their exes were quite ‘practical and sexual.’

Scary, ain’t it?

“People who are in deep, close, healthy, and intimate relationships tend to be happier.

“But narcissists hate to fail or lose, so they will do what they can to maintain some connection if they didn’t make the choice to end it. They can experience narcissistic injury when rejected by a partner and have difficulties letting it go or healing from it,” said Dr. Tony Ferreti.

Remaining friends with their exes also give people a sense of power or control because they know the other person very well. They know the weak points and vulnerabilities.

Well, now that you have read it, ask yourself are you a psychopath!
