When I was a child, my mother used to tell me that if I am bitten by a dog, I will get 14 injections in the stomach. This fear is also inevitable in view of the slender and big – toothed dogs. Doctors will decide whether to inject or not.

Nowadays you must be shocked to hear of such incidents in which some pet dogs are bitten by others. Usually, when a pet dog passes by the side, people live in a sense of satisfaction that the pet will not bite. But it’s fair to be afraid of the dangerous attacks of pet dogs that have been reported in the past few days.
In view of these incidents, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory. It has also asked dog owners to confiscate unregistered pets.

What to do if your dog bites you?

What will you do then? Some treatment will be required before you can go to a doctor. Find out how you can help such a person.

Why is it important to take the first aid?

According to a Mayo Clinic report, rabies is the second most common cause of death after dog bites. Therefore, the doctors themselves recommend that the dog be treated as soon as possible after the bite. At the same time, we need to have some first aid before that. A timely dose of first aid rabies reduces the risk of a dog bite by 80 per cent.

Wash the area of the bat

1. If a dog bites a person in front of you, clean the area with water without delay.
2. Use a mild soap to wash the area.
3. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes. This will help prevent the spread of the virus.

Apply antiseptic

1. After washing the area, rinse it thoroughly with a cloth.
2. Apply antiseptic cream after it dries.
3. If there is no antiseptic cream, you can clean the place with alcohol or iodine solution.

Do not delay after giving first aid. Get to a hospital or clinic as soon as possible where the dog bite vaccine is available. Immediate anti-rabies injection should be given to the patient. Also, whether or not an immunoglobulin injection should be administered, doctors will decide.

Take care of the seating area

Do not sit comfortably even after being injected. First, see whether the byte mark is large or small. If the bite is small, leave it open so that the wound can heal quickly. Keep an eye on the wounds regularly. If there is any infection, redness, swelling, pain or fever. So, inform the doctor about this without delay.
